How to Ride On the Bus

Follow these easy steps to learn how to ride the bus.
Plan Your Trip

Lebanon Transit operates 13 fixed bus routes serving Lebanon City, Annville, Palmyra, Hershey, Harrisburg, and Park City Center. There are several things you can do to plan your trip:

  • Review our Fixed Route system map.
  • View our bus route schedules. You can find these online here or you can pick up a brochure at our main office, Transfer Station, on board all buses, or at dozens of businesses across the community. Learn how to read a bus schedule here.
  • Download our free myStop Mobile App for real-time bus tracking and trip planning on your phone. Or checkout the desktop version here.
  • Call us Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm at 717.274.3664 and our staff would be happy to help you plan your trip.
“Flag Stop” Service

Lebanon Transit’s city and county routes operate as “flag stop.” This means a couple of things:

  1. The bus keeps moving unless a rider wants to board or exit.
  2. You can board or exit the bus at any safe location along the fixed route. You are not limited to the timepoint stops found in the bus schedule.

You should always “flag” the driver to indicate you want on or off the bus. To get on, wave your arm at the driver – like hailing a cab – when the bus is about a 1/2 block from you. To get off, pull the yellow cord that runs just above the windows.

NOTE: Express buses (CKE Harrisburg A & B; Route 7; Route 10) are not flag stop. You may only board and exit these buses at designated stops as listed in the schedules.

Riding On with a Bicycle?

Every Lebanon Transit bus is outfitted with a bicycle rack on the front that can hold two bicycles at a time. Always signal to the driver that you intend to use the rack before you step in front of the bus! There is no charge for bicycles. If the rack is already full, you will not be able to bring your bicycle onboard. You’ll have to leave it behind or wait for the next bus. Checkout this tutorial video to learn how to properly secure your bicycle.

Paying Fare

You can find the fare table here.

Lebanon Transit is an “exact change” company. That means if you are paying with cash, you must pay exact fare. Our drivers do not carry any cash and you will not receive any change for overpayment.

You may also purchase in advance a variety of different types of bus passes. Bus passes may be purchased with cash at the Transfer Station during attended hours or with cash or credit card at the main office.

Transfers
  1. When boarding your bus, let the driver know that you need a transfer. This helps you save time and allows the driver to coordinate with other buses.
  2. Transfers are 25¢ (1/2 Fare Transfers are 10¢).
  3. Transfers are good for the next available run on your desired route.
  4. Transfers can only be used at the 7th & Willow St. Transfer Station.
Getting Off the Bus

Buses have an automated system that makes audio and visual announcements as it approaches timepoints. The visual announcements are near the ceiling of the bus in the front.

Whenever you want to exit, signal the driver by pulling the yellow cord that runs just above the windows. The driver will find the nearest safe location to let you off.

Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. Exit quickly so boarding passengers may get on. Once you exit, step away from the bus and wait until it leaves before crossing the street. Never cross in front of the bus.
